See the following websites (in alphabetical order) for more information about Arctic research and about the International Polar Year.
International Polar Year
This is the offical IPY website. The aim of the International Polar Year (IPY) is to achieve an explosion of research activity and international coordinated and multidisciplinary observations focused in the polar regions of our globe. The IPY arises from an joint initiative of Executive Committees of ICSU (International Council of Scientific Unions) and WMO (World Meteorological Organisation).
International Polar Year - Argentina
This website covers actions that Argentine Republic will take at the occasion of the IPY 2007-2008. The list of projects in which Argentina will participate is included as well.
International Polar Year - Canada
In Canada , the Canadian Steering Committee (CSC) is supported by the Canadian Secretariat, which is hosted at the University of Alberta , and works in concert with the Canadian Polar Commission and the IPY Federal Working Group to coordinate Canada 's IPY initiatives. The Canadian IPY Steering Committee's role is to ensure that Canadian IPY activities address both Arctic and Antarctic regions, involve scientists from a range of disciplines, and maintain a focus on compelling scientific questions.

The North Pole Environmental Observatory (NPEO)
Beginning in spring 2000, an international research team supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has conducted annual expeditions each April to the North Pole to maintain long-term observations of the central marine Arctic and thereby learn how the world's northernmost region helps regulate global climate. Near the Pole the team establishes an automated drifting station measuring atmosphere, ice and ocean conditions, services a deep ocean mooring, and conducts airborne hydrographic surveys . The NPEO also provides opportunities for other investigators to conduct research in the central Arctic operational and logistics support and by providing long-term data. The NPEO grant is to extend through the IPY year.
